Flowers

My fascination with the mountains naturally includes the flora and fauna of this wilderness. The expressive aspen trees that sway in the wind. The stout and strong pine trees that grow tall and brave all the elements. Even the swaying, moving fields of wildflowers. However, I was surprised by how often flowers captured the attention of my camera lens! I gathered them together into this photo bouquet ~ Enjoy!

Title: Bursting Forth
Location: Vancouver Island, Canada
-This is one of those unique shots where everything lined up for a split second. The lighting was perfect. The color was brilliant. I had found the best angle to capture this unique flower. I love the effect of the bright sunlight and the shadows it creates. Quite an intricate creation.

Title: Hear The Color
Location: Vancouver Island, Canada
-The variation in color is incredible in this blossom. As I took this picture, I couldn't help but think of a phonograph. You may not hear much out of this bloom, but the color satisfies another sense.

Title: Pinwheels
Location: Vancouver Island, Canada
-These fun little flowers are Pinwheel Daisy's. I love the playfulness in them and almost expected them to spin as I walked past.

Title: Perfection
Location: Saint-Martin-du-Canigou, France
-I wish that I could make this a scratch-and-sniff photo as well. This was the most perfect and most fragrant rose I have ever encountered. Found in a monastery in the mountains of Southern France.

Title: Golden Pattern
Location: Vancouver Island, Canada
-These well planted marigolds create a fun repeating pattern. The friendly blossoms find plenty of space in this crowded bed to glow in the bright sunlight.

Title: Patterned Petals
Location: Vancouver Island, Canada
-The pattern of these petals is quite impressive. They pile in next to each other to form a soft spherical blossom. You can almost feel the weight of it just by looking at it.

Title: Subtle Motion
Location: Manitou Springs, CO
-The shape of this flower's petals and the light breeze that day give this picture an interesting feeling of motion. I feel as though it is spinning and I have captured a single moment of the action.

Title: Towering Tulips
Location: San Francisco, CA
-These bright and friendly tulips make any sunny day so much more colorful. I suppose this is what these friendly flowers look like to the sun that warms them.

Title: Simplicity
Location: Manitou Springs, CO
-I enjoy the simple beauty of this one. No fancy patterns or shapes. Few petals and basic colors. Yet, it is just as inviting and cheerful. Got to enjoy the simple things.

Title: Draw The Line
Location: Vancouver Island, Canada
-This is a near perfect line drawn in the flower bed.  Yet, the colors bounce and play against each other.

Title: Morning Rose
Location: Lemon Cove, CA
-The gentle morning light is greeted by the vibrant color of these roses. I can still remember the cool breeze and the dew in the grass.

Title: Down The Line
Location: Santa Fe, NM
-The bright, tiny flowers line this stem from end to end, gathering in little bunches along the way. Bright and cheery on a colder spring day.

Title: A Frozen Memory
Location: Lake Isabel, CO
-A red rose cast onto a frozen lake. I know not why, but it is now a part of that lake. The ice freezes around the leaves and petals, embracing this offering.

Go out and enjoy some flowers of your own now.

Fall Collection

Fall is my favorite season, so it is only fitting that my first posted collection revolves around this time of the year. I know that New England has some of the most vibrant fall colors in the nation, but I thoroughly enjoy a Colorado autumn. So, I present my favorites of fall in Colorado!

Title: Autumn Rest
Location: Manitou Springs, CO
-Amidst all the vibrant color of this season, it is nice to have a reminder about what is truly occurring in nature. Everything is slowing down and preparing for a nice long rest.

Title: The Quake Before The Storm
Location: San Isabel National Forest, CO
-One of my favorite thing about Colorado aspen trees is the way the leaves quake and shiver in the wind. Sometimes I enjoy nothing more than laying on my back in an aspen grove and listening to the soft rushing sound all around.

Title: Autumn Glow
Location: Colorado Springs, CO
-The colors on any city block may even be extraordinary. Add a little sunlight to filter down through those multi-hued leaves and you have a natural kaleidoscope.

Title: Remember This
Location: Manitou Springs, CO
-Some of my fondest childhood memories are of simple games and playgrounds. The cool days and warm colors of autumn are ideal for reminiscing.

Title: Fire Re-visits
Location: Pike National Forest, CO
-This area was once ravaged by a forest fire. Yet, nature always seems to recover and some fiery color returns to this hillside.

Titles: Through Leaves I and II
Location: Colorado Springs, CO
-The complexity of the leaves and branches of this tree are a perfect contrast to that simple, clear blue sky. The vibrant red is so crisp and sharp, it seems to cut its pattern  right out of the blue sheet behind.

Title: Rushing To Stand Still
Location: Telluride, CO
-Many fallen aspen leaves find their journey towards rest a rough and tumble one. Yet, whatever the means, they all find eventual stillness and peace.

Title: Aspen Path
Location: Telluride, CO
-I love the idea of following a path. The challenges and rewards that lay ahead, hidden by whatever bends and rises may be before us. We have nothing to do but curiously follow and discover. This was definitely worth discovery.

Title: Branches That Embrace
Location: Colorado Springs, CO
-Despite the many years that this beautiful tree has seen, it does not shy away from announcing its imminent slumber with a flare of bright gold.

Title: Change and Changeless
Location: Colorado Springs, CO
-As the natural world prepares to rest and eventually renew, this chapel simply endures and slowly displays signs of its age.

Title: Golden Standard
Location: San Isabel National Forest, CO
-Sunlight emphasizes this trees brilliant preperations for winter. Trees on the hills below and beyond take heed and follow the example before them.

Title: Leaves Among Flakes
Location: Cripple Creek, CO
-Leaves that have grown weary of the harsh winds amongst the tree branches fall to be embraced by the cold, gentle flakes on the ground.

Title: Paths Forgotten
Location: San Juan National Forest near Dolores, CO
-I know not where this gate's path led. The path has been forgotten, yet the gate remains as a testement to someone's journey long ago.

This fall collection is one of my favorites. I am sure that I will be adding to it in the future.
I hope that you enjoy what you see here!

The New Year

Greetings to everyone and Happy New Year! I must say that I am quite excited that 2010 is here and that my work will begin to go public! For starters, I am excited about the new image for the title of this site, which is a sample of my signature for my work. In the next few weeks you will see some of my collections appear on this site. I am formatting and assembling as we speak! My various collections will all be constructed around a particular theme. I am not sure yet how many collections will be released this month as I continually find inspiration through my camera lens.
So, look for upcoming posts to view the collections that I have in store for you.
Also, keep returning as a collection is never static and may be updated as my artistic eye demands.

Thank you very much and happy 2010!
